Janette Oke was born in Champion, Alberta, deep in the Canadian prairies. Her father was a farmer. Janet grew up in a large friendly family. She graduated from Mountain View Bible College (Alberta), where she met her future husband Edward. They got married in May 1957. Her husband has served as a pastor in several churches in Indiana as well as Canada. The couple then spent several years in Didsbury and Calgary: Edward held various positions in college administration, and Janette wrote. She is the author of over sixty novels and stories for adults and children. The total circulation of her books has exceeded twenty-two million copies.
Edward and Janette Oke have three sons and a daughter. All of them found their halves and gave their parents twelve grandchildren. The Oke family is actively involved in church life in Didsbury, Alberta.
