Lydia Houghton

Dr. Lydia Houghton was a British family doctor from Bristol, known for her compassionate medical practice and her heartfelt literary work. Writing under the pen name “Damaris,” she created numerous short stories for the children’s section of *The Gospel Magazine*, one of the oldest Christian periodicals in England. Her narratives, often based on true events, combined everyday situations with vivid illustrations of God’s providence.

Born in the early 20th century, she devoted her life both to medicine and to sharing Christian truths through simple yet powerful stories. Her writings were later collected into small volumes, including “The Windowsill Book,” “A Link in the Chain,” and “Andrew’s Prayer.” Dr. Houghton passed away in 1993 at the age of 94, leaving a legacy of devotional literature cherished by readers beyond the United Kingdom.
